What are Birthmarks?
Birthmarks are known as a congenital irregularity which appears on the top layer of the skin. These irregularities take place at birth, or sometime shortly after birth. Birthmarks can show up on various parts of the body, some of which include the face, legs, feet, hands, back, chest and other places on the human body. The appearance of these birthmarks is due to melanocytes, which are large blood vessels or an imbalance within skin cells. If you suffer from unwanted birthmarks that have an unflattering appearance, the good news is that there are many products on the market today to help lighten their appearance considerably. Moreover, some of these products are all-natural and can help lighten birthmarks using natural ingredients to ensure your skin remains unharmed by harsher chemicals found in other skin lighteners.
The Different Types of Birthmarks
There are two different types of birthmarks known as Vascular Birthmarks and Pigmented Birthmarks.
Vascular Birthmarks
Vascular birthmarks are caused by the overgrowth or abnormal growth of blood vessels within the skin. The appearance of these marks may vary from pink colored patches or tumor masses that can range in different size. The chances of these tumors growing more substantial in scale can also happen potentially as time goes on. These birthmarks can be found on the face, back, eyelids and many other different parts of the body.
For these specific birthmarks, laser treatment is suggested to combat their appearance or to prevent them from becoming cancerous by removing them if they are large in size and pose a threat to your health. For any Vascular Birthmark, it is recommended that you seek out a professional such as a dermatologist to begin the treatment process.
Vascular Birthmark Removal Cost
Many factors involve the total cost of a birthmark removal, some of which may depend on whether or not the birthmark can be treated effectively with lasers, as well as what laser would be used if it can be treated with it. Lastly, the cost is also affected by how many treatments may be required to cure it. On average, patients spend between $200-$600 per treatment. Some patients may need a total of six sessions or more to be adequately treated.
Pigmented Birthmarks
Pigmented Birthmarks are caused by the overproduction of pigmentation in the skin’s cells. As an example, when your skin’s surface is exposed to the sun’s UV rays, it triggers an overproduction of melanin pigments due to the way the skin reacts to the sun as it slowly begins to tan. As a result, you may notice that previous dark spots or birthmarks have darkened in color.
In some cases, pigmented birthmarks may slowly fade away into nothing on their own by the time a child reaches the age of 10. However, some birthmarks may not go away entirely, but instead become darker in color over time. To treat this type of birthmark, you can resort to natural remedies or birthmark removal creams found over-the-counter which can ultimately help lessen their appearance. Usually, laser treatments or surgery is not required for these types of pigmented birthmarks.

How to Get Rid of Birthmarks
There are a few methods that can be used to reduce the appearance of birthmarks, and we are going to tell you exactly how as you continue to read.
Pigmented Birthmarks
The best way to treat pigmented birthmarks is to find home remedies or all-natural skin lighteners that can help with the removal of pigmentation in birthmarks. Typically, using a fade cream can help tackle the pigments within the area of the birthmark by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase to fade the darkened pigments over time slowly. This can take between a few days to a few months depending on the product you’re using, and the ingredients contained within the product itself.
Vascular Birthmarks
The best way to treat these forms of birthmarks is through a medical professional such as a dermatologist. Based on the condition and state of the birthmark, the doctor may require you to start on steroid treatments, laser therapy, or even surgery to have the vascular birthmark removed entirely. Unfortunately, these birthmarks cannot be removed with over-the-counter fade creams or natural remedies and can only be treated through surgery or anti-inflammatory treatments.
Natural Remedies for Pigmented Birthmarks
Using natural remedies can help alter the appearance of uneven skin tone and dark spots on the skin, particularly, pigmented birthmarks. Using a combination of the few ingredients listed below, you can notice visible results over time without breaking the bank to buy pricey over-the-counter lightening creams or serums to achieve the same results. We even decided to throw in two DIY’s (do it yourself) for a skin lightening serum and face mask that you can make on your own with some of the ingredients we listed!
5 Natural Remedies for Pigmented Birthmarks:
Yogurt – is a probiotic food that is a byproduct of milk, which contains an abundant amount of essential nutrients that can be crucial for your skin’s health. Lactic acid is found in yogurt and features moisturizing and bleaching benefits which make this probiotic an excellent choice for a natural skin lightener when applied to the skin. Lactic acid can treat unwanted blemishes such as freckles, dark spots, and age spots.
Lemon – is rich in citric acids that are used in many natural skin lightening products. In short, lemon contains the antioxidant Vitamin C which has been proven to reduce the production of melanin in the skin. Vitamin C’s role comes into play when it inhibits the enzyme tyrosinase, lowering the production of melanin in the skin, perfect for fading away pigmented birthmarks.
Tomato – contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties which have been quite effective in curing various forms of acne, hyperpigmentation and other annoying blemishes. Tomato also has some bleaching benefits when it comes to being applied directly to the skin. Try looking for a tomato-based mask or spot treatment to help lighten forms of pigmented birthmarks. Here’s one we suggest you should try.
Papaya – contains a pigment within it called “papain” which helps to reduce dark spots, dark patches, birthmarks and more. You can use the juices of papaya fruit to apply on your desired areas for treatment, or you can mix the juices in your daily body lotion and apply to the skin as needed for natural glow and radiance.
Oranges – not only smell and taste amazing, but they are full of Vitamin C! Just like lemon, oranges have bleaching properties because of the high amounts of Vitamin C within them. Consuming oranges in your regular diet can improve your skin’s texture and keep it supple.
